Description
The Deutsch-Amerikansiches Zentrum /
James-F.-Byrnes-Institut e.V. was founded in 1995 as the successor
institution to the Stuttgart Amerika Haus, which was closed that year.
The Institute’s goal is to foster German-American relations through
cultural and other programs. The Byrnes-Institut’s programs are
open to the public, and the monthly program should be considered to be
both an offer and an invitation. The Byrnes-Institut is
willing to cooperate with all possible partners, preferably in the
Stuttgart region, but also beyond.
The Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum /
James-F.-Byrnes-Institut e.V., a non-profit, bi-national
institution, supported by the State Government of
Baden-Württemberg and the City of Stuttgart, provides information
on social, cultural, political, and economic issues in both countries.
This includes lectures, seminars, and discussions held in either German
or English, musical events, films and exhibitions. (See program)
In addition, a (small) library has
information on educational
stays in the U.S. (high school, university, au pair,
internships/short-term employment, etc.). Moreover, the Institute
arranges programs in cooperation with German-American organizations and
other cultural institutions in the greater Stuttgart area and beyond.
The Institute is organized as an association in which,
in addition to the State of Baden-Württemberg and the City of
Stuttgart, the Universities of Hohenheim and Stuttgart, the
Fachhochschulen, German-American organizations, the U.S. Embassy in
Germany as well as private persons and corporations are represented.
The work of the Institute can be supported by membership
in the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum/James-F.-Byrnes-Institut e.V.
or with donations. The yearly membership dues are 51 € for individuals,
66 € for families, 26 € for students, and 153 € for corporations,
associations, and clubs. The Institute is recognized as a non-profit
organization; membership fees and donations are tax-deductible in
Germany. Members receive a free monthly program and other information,
free entrance or reduced fees for programs, as well as a 5% discount
for courses at the Englisches Sprachzentrum.
